Mathematics

Year 10 in Wales is the first GCSE year. Most pupils take both WJEC GCSE Mathematics and GCSE Mathematics – Numeracy, which means covering formal technique and applied, real-world problem solving side by side.

Content includes algebraic manipulation, quadratics, simultaneous equations, straight-line and quadratic graphs, trigonometry, circle theorems, similarity, probability and statistics. The Numeracy paper adds financial and measurement contexts — best buys, currency, scale drawings, rates and interpreting real data.

Because two qualifications run in parallel, pacing matters. Structured one-to-one support at this stage is usually about identifying the specific topics that block progress and clearing them before the mock series.
