Year 10 opens WJEC GCSE Chemistry in Wales. Early units cover the nature of substances and chemical reactions — atomic structure, the periodic table, bonding, and writing and balancing equations.

Quantitative work begins in earnest with relative formula mass, the mole and reacting masses, and it underpins everything that follows. Students who secure calculation technique in Year 10 find the Year 11 material substantially easier.
