Chemistry

WJEC GCSE Chemistry is examined in two written papers with a practical assessment component, and forms part of the separate-science route in Wales alongside Biology and Physics.

Content covers atomic structure and the periodic table, ionic, covalent and metallic bonding, the mole and reacting-mass calculations, acids, bases and salts, rates of reaction, energy changes, electrolysis, organic chemistry, the Earth's atmosphere and resources, and chemical analysis.

Calculation questions — moles, concentration, percentage yield and atom economy — are where grades are most often won or lost. They respond very well to structured, repeated one-to-one practice with feedback on setting out working.
