Year 6 · Curriculum for Wales
Year 6 is the consolidation year before secondary. Pupils work with all four operations on integers and decimals, use order of operations, and apply long division confidently. Fractions, decimals, percentages and ratio are handled interchangeably in multi-step problems.
Algebra is introduced formally — simple formulae, expressions with unknowns and linear number sequences. Geometry covers area of triangles and parallelograms, volume of cuboids, angles in triangles and quadrilaterals, circle vocabulary and all four quadrants of the coordinate grid.
Statistics extends to pie charts and the mean. This is the year to close remaining gaps: Year 7 in Wales assumes all of it as known.
