Year 2 mathematics extends place value to 100 with confidence and introduces the 2, 5 and 10 times tables alongside the division facts that go with them. Written methods for addition and subtraction begin, supported by strong mental strategies.

Fractions extend to halves, quarters and thirds of shapes and quantities. Measurement covers standard units for length, mass and capacity, telling the time to five minutes, and solving money problems including finding change.

Geometry looks at symmetry and the properties of 2D and 3D shapes, and data work moves into tally charts, pictograms and simple bar charts.
