Science

Third Level · Curriculum for Excellence

At Third Level, science is usually taught as separate biology, chemistry and physics strands within a general S1 to S2 science course. Biology covers cells, body systems, reproduction, inheritance and ecosystems; chemistry introduces atoms, elements, the periodic table, chemical reactions and rates.

Physics covers forces, energy, electricity, waves and space in more quantitative terms — pupils begin using formulae, units and calculations rather than descriptions alone. Practical work becomes more formal, with risk assessment, controlled variables and proper write-ups.

This is the point where pupils decide which sciences to take at National level, so building confidence across all three now keeps those options open.
