Early Level · Curriculum for Excellence
Science at Early Level is about curiosity and noticing. Children explore living things in their own environment, look at how plants and animals grow and what they need, investigate materials by feel and behaviour, and play with forces by pushing, pulling, rolling and floating things.
Curriculum for Excellence frames this as 'Sciences' alongside 'Technologies', so much of the learning happens through outdoor exploration, growing something, sorting materials, and asking questions that get tested rather than answered.
The aim at this stage isn't vocabulary — it's the habit of predicting, trying, and saying what happened. That habit is what makes First and Second Level science straightforward later.
