Chemistry

CCEA GCSE Chemistry is assessed by written examinations and a practical skills assessment, and forms part of the separate-science route in Northern Ireland alongside Biology and Physics.

Content covers atomic structure and the periodic table, ionic, covalent and metallic bonding, quantitative chemistry and the mole, acids, bases and salts, rates of reaction, energy changes, electrolysis, organic chemistry, materials, and qualitative and quantitative analysis.

Calculation questions — moles, concentration, percentage yield and titration — are where grades are most often decided. They respond very well to structured, repeated one-to-one practice with feedback on how working is set out.
