Biology

GCSE · CCEA

CCEA GCSE Biology is the separate-science route in Northern Ireland, taken alongside Chemistry and Physics rather than as part of Double Award Science. It is assessed by written examinations plus a practical skills assessment.

Content covers cells and movement across membranes, enzymes, respiration and photosynthesis, digestion, transport in humans and plants, coordination and control, health and disease, genetics and inheritance, variation and selection, and ecological relationships.

The prescribed practicals and the data-analysis questions built on them carry substantial marks, so understanding method and evaluation — not just the result — is essential for a strong grade.
