P7 · Northern Ireland Curriculum
P7 Language and Literacy aims to leave pupils ready for post-primary study. Reading covers classic and contemporary fiction, poetry and demanding non-fiction, with pupils expected to analyse language, structure and theme and support every point with textual evidence.
Writing is assessed across a full range of genres, with vocabulary, grammar and structure chosen deliberately for effect. Formal and informal register, the passive voice, semi-colons, colons and hyphens are taught explicitly.
Talking and listening work extends into formal debate and sustained presentation, and pupils are expected to proofread and edit independently to a high standard.
