P4 Language and Literacy broadens reading into chapter books, poetry and non-fiction. Comprehension focuses on retrieving information accurately, inferring meaning, and explaining an opinion using evidence from the text.

Writing is organised into paragraphs, and pupils learn to plan before writing. Grammar covers conjunctions, prepositions, adverbs and inverted commas for speech, and spelling extends into prefixes, suffixes and statutory word lists.

Talking and listening work includes presenting to a group, explaining reasoning, and building on what other people have said — all assessed strands in the Northern Ireland Curriculum.
