Materials work covers properties, changes such as melting and dissolving, and why particular materials are chosen for particular jobs. Forces, light, sound and simple electrical circuits are explored practically.

Investigation skills step up: children plan a simple fair test, decide what to measure, record results in a table, and use those results to answer the question they started with.
